Domestic Electrical Health Checks

How safe is the electrical wiring in your home?
A Domestic Electrical Health Check from Orange Tree Electrical will give you the answer.

Every year in UK around 70 people are killed and a staggering 350,000 people are injured from accidents involving electricity so if you have any concerns about the electrical wiring in your home take action now and seek advice from a qualified electrician.

With 20,000 house fires a year being caused by electrical faults or incidents involving electrical equipment the cost of ignoring the warning signs can be significant.

You should seriously consider having the electrical wiring in your home checked by a qualified electrical inspector if: -

  • The wiring in your home is older than 10 years and has never been tested since it was first installed.
  • You have just purchased or are looking to purchase a new home.
This is very important since you do not always know how well the previous owners maintained the home or if they carried out electrical work by themselves.
  • You have no current certificate or report confirming its safe to use.
  • Electrical work or alterations have been undertaken in the past but no certificates where provided for the work.
All electrical work should be inspected and tested when it is first installed and relevant certificates should be given to the person paying for the work. Without these certificates how can you ever prove the work was done correctly? If no certificates have been provided the person who did the work could be committing a criminal offence which begs the question what other corners did they cut?
  • You have any concerns or there are any visible signs of damage, overheating, burning, or parts of the installation look physically worn or tired.

Another thing to consider is whether or not the property has RCD protection or if old rewirable type fuses are still being used.
